Time loop movies are a fickle product. The formula is simple: take one moment, repeat that moment, make that moment into a story that means something. That’s far easier said than done. This Spanish language movie from director Javier Ruiz Caldera manages to achieve that difficult task.
Enter Antonio (Berto Romero) and Barbara (Belén Cuesta) off to a weekend in the countryside to reconnect. They’ve left their son back home in the city with family. All seems delightful as they meet their estate agent/ host Carlos Javier Cámara. Instead of a relaxing time away in an idyllic countryside location far away from everyone else, they get confusion and terror. It soon becomes apparent that the time loop isn’t exclusive to the couple, but something that is impacting the whole world at the same time.
While the weekend away isn’t what Antonio and Barbara were originally looking for, it does provide a way to meet their goal of reconnecting with each other. Just not in the way that they had originally planned.
