More Canada represent in Austin! After not being able to see it at TIFF, Vancouver and even the Victoria Film Festival, I finally caught up with Sophie Jarvis’ movie UNTIL BRANCHES BEND at SxSW Film & TV this year. The movie has one final screening on Friday and if you are still in town…you know […]

One of the finest documentaries that will be out this year, I was lucky to attend the premiere of BEING MARY TYLER MOORE at the Zach Theatre earlier this week. ABOUT: With unprecedented access to the Mary Tyler Moore Estate, friends, family, and colleagues, “Being Mary Tyler Moore” constructs an intimate mosaic of Mary’s sixty-year […]

Earlier this week the true Texas story THE LONG GAME wowed the premiere audience at the Paramount Theatre for SxSW this week. I was there bright and early to see stars Jay Hernandez and Dennis Quaid in person along with director Julio Quintana. ABOUT: When JB Peña moves to the small town of Del Rio, […]

One of the funniest movies to come out of SxSW this year, the new filmmaking powerhouse of Ms. Seligman and Ms. Sennott were one of the biggest breakouts of SxSW this year. BOTTOMS had a loud as hell premiere at the Paramount Theatre early in the festival and also had a terrific repeat screening at […]

I was lucky to attend the big gala of Jake Johnson’s new picture SELF-RELIANCE at the Paramount which also stars him alongside the wonderful Anna Kendrick. This movie has a screening tonight (Friday) at the Zach Theatre and is highly recommended if you want a case of the giggles. ABOUT: When a man is offered […]

One of the strongest docs to come out of SxSW is IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE, about this truly amazing woman who could. I am happy to hear the strong reactions from other festival goers I met this week, making me very happy to hear that people have been seeing it and spreading the word. […]

The roof nearly blew off at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas tonight, as both Antonio and myself were among the 1200 scared souls in attendance at the SxSW Film & TV Festival World Premiere of EVIL DEAD RISE as part of the legendary Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell combo and directed by Lee Cronin. ABOUT: “Evil […]

As part of the Narrative Competition at SxSW this year, PURE O is having one final screening at SxSW and if you are town, it’s really worth checking out. ABOUT: Cooper Ganz’s seemingly perfect life quickly unravels when he is diagnosed with a crippling form of OCD called Pure Obsessional. This often misunderstood illness forces […]

This reaction is one that means a lot to me, as it comes from quite a few talents that I have known over the years including producer Aaron B. Koontz from Austin along with Midnight Madness at Toronto International Film Festival’s very own Peter Kuplowsky. As soon as I heard these names had a movie […]

Canada represent! Filmmaker Matt Johnson is no stranger to SxSW and Austin’s Fantastic Fest where I have met him many times (and he also has one of the best acting-is-reacting faces in recent memory) with THE DIRTIES at Fantastic Fest along with OPERATION AVALANCHE at SxSW a few years ago. I was honored to be […]

One of the big screenings this year was Austin’s own Robert Rodriguez celebrating the 30th anniversary of his first movie, EL MARIACHI, with a work in progress screening of his latest picture HYPNOTIC. Note that this is touted as a work-in-progress, but in this movie buff’s opinion this seemed pretty final except for possibly a […]

That Rachel Sennott is so hot at SxSW right now! One of the breakout stars of the festival this year, Rachel was in two movies at the festival including BOTTOMS (a reaction is coming soon to this site) along with this Canadian feature I USED TO BE FUNNY filmed in and around the Toronto area. […]
