The Midnighters section has always been addictive to this film fan, and seeing something like REDUX REDUX always reminds me of the power of the programming at this year’s South By Southwest Film & TV Festival.
About: In an attempt to avenge her daughter’s death, Irene Kelly travels through parallel universes, killing her daughter’s murderer over and over again. She grows addicted to the revenge streak, putting her own humanity in jeopardy.
Reaction: A multi-verse Indie! While I feel like this subject has been done to death with Marvel movies and EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE, REDUX REDUX has a terrific lead performance by Michaela McManus (reminding me a mix between Charlie Theron and Natasha Henstridge) as a woman who has some kind of bizarre time machine where she can go back and revisit the revenge that she brings on for her daughter’s death. This movie is way more cool and bizarre the more you think about it, and I really liked the Lo-fi approach to this kind of material and the duo of Kevin and Matthew McManus have created a clever spin on this with a solid cast (mention must be given to Stella Marcus as a younger girl our lead connects with) and presentation. I am curious if this plays at more genre festivals down the road or if I had my way, a couple of cool midnight screenings where it belongs with a big audience.

This is one of the many movies playing in this year’s South By Southwest Film & TV Festival. For more information on the festival, point your browser to www.sxsw.com!
