Inside Out 2017: ‘Ginger Nation’ Review

Ginger Nation Shawn Hitchins

Toronto comedian Shawn Hitchins is funny. Really funny. And it’s not because he’s a redhead making fun of himself being “a person of primary colour.” And it’s not because he’s a “gold star gay.” But these two factors make up a large part of who he is and from them come some really fantastic, and hilarious, stories. He’s vulnerable and shares his fears about what it’s like to be gay, his childhood insecurities that stemmed from being the only ginger in his class, and how difficult it was for him when his lesbian friends asked him to be their sperm donor.

Hitchins says in his act that he’s good for up to 60 minutes of conversation. And that’s what Ginger Nation feels like – just you and your friend Hitchins sitting down and having a really great, albeit one-sided, conversation for about 60 minutes.
