In Handsome Devil, Ned, the music loving ginger, and Conor, the rugby team’s star athlete, are forced to be roommates at their Irish boarding school. And what starts off as an uncomfortable situation turns into an unlikely friendship. Their mentor and teacher, Mr. Sherry (Andrew Scott), help the loner and the jock bond by convincing them to perform at the local talent show together.
Handsome Devil is one of the year’s best films. Director John Butler has created a charming and very funny, coming-of-age movie that is reminiscent of some of the best teen movies, like Dead Poets Society (Scott’s character instantly made me think of Robin Williams), last year’s indie darling Sing Street, and any one of John Hughes films. This movie is a must see – seek it out.
